Paper Treats is delighted to introduce everyone to Tsubame Books! Based in Tokyo, illustrator and designer Nobuo Kusunoki has spent many, many years working independently in advertising and editorial illustration. He also showcases his artistic talent crafting clay dolls and objects using materials like metal and wood. “If there’s something I want to express, I’ll try making it any form!”

Deeply inspired by movies, music, art and fashion from around the world, Kusunoki loves to mix Japanese culture with overseas influences. Whether it’s illustrations, handmade dolls, or T-shirt and packaging designs, his expressive style feels both nostalgic and fresh.

Kusunoki believes that while cultures may differ, the feeling of “kawaii” and beauty is universally the same—and hopes his creations will translate to that feeling to everyone who sees his work.
